Prototype Information:

Introduced in 1992, EMD's SD70M was a 4000 horsepower locomotive that ran on EMD's new steerable truck design, known as the HTCR-II radial truck.

?

This new truck allowed the locomotive to transfer its power to the rails more efficiently, which in turn enabled two SD70M locomotives to pull a train that would have taken three SD40-2's to pull.

The early version of this locomotive, depicted in this latest release from Kato USA, had a flat radiator rather than the flared radiators of later versions.

The SD70M is a powerful locomotive, ideally suited for pulling long freight trains of Gunderson Maxi-Stack well cars or Bethgon Coalporters.

Model Features:

Kato's SD70M with flat radiator is DCC friendly for the simple installation of digital decoders, features a five pole motor with dual brass flywheels, golden white LED directional headlights, new magnetic knuckle couplers with straight shank, and illuminated number boards and ditch lights.

All locomotives will be equipped with body mounted KATO straight shank magnetic knuckle couplers.

Locomotives will feature directional Golden White LED headlight and illuminated preprinted numberboards.
Lighted ditch lights
Locomotives will be DCC friendly
All 6 axles powered
