NEW ROAD NUMBERS & PAINT SCHEMES!

O GP60/60M/B LOCOMOTIVE

(Technical artwork)

Introduced in 1985 as the refined replacement for the five-year-old 50-series locomotives, the GP60 (and sister SD60) represented a significant leap in locomotive design for EMD. Incorporating computer technology to control locomotive operation and onboard diagnostics, the 3800 hp GP60 just may be the ?ultimate? geep. Designed for hi-speed intermodal traffic, this locomotive could be found on the major transcontinental carriers in the service for which they were designed. In fact, a variation of the GP60 become so associated with the Santa Fe in the early 1990s, it came to represent the best that railroads had to offer in quality service.

O SD40 SERIES LOCOMOTIVES

(Technical artwork shown)

Introduced in 1966, the EMD SD40 and its family of later variations, became the best-selling diesel of all time. The SD40 and the other 1966 line-up of EMD locos featured the new 645-series prime mover, the first major engine change since 1939. The success of this diesel engine and the 3000 h.p. rating have made the SD40 family of locos the standard of American railroads. Now, over three decades since their introduction, many of these locos are still in regular mainline operation.
