This 89' tri-level
closed auto track is painted CP Action Red with white "CP RAIL"
letters on Action Red placard and runs on black Barber? roller
bearing trucks. Rebuilt in February 1994, this tri-level auto rack
includes 4th Generation Thrall doors. It carries the CP Rai
l"Action Red" paint scheme for auto racks. The first auto racks had
exposed sides that led to vehicle damage from vandalism and
weather. In the early 1970?s the railroads started to enclose the
auto racks with steel mesh. Auto racks are one of the most commonly
seen cars on the railroads today.

box car with single Youngstown door and no roofwalk is painted
synthetic red with large ?Union Pacific? letters and ?Ship and
Travel The Automated Rail Way? slogan and runs on red Bettendorf
trucks. The Omaha shops were kept busy in 1968 rebuilding existing
freight cars. Improvements included a 10 ft. door. Road number
series 507400-507416 class B-50-60 are equipped with 9 belt DF-2
Loaders. Road number 507406 were re-capitalized as new
equipment.

door is car #32 of a 50-car series representing each of the 50
states in the union. It bears the Western Meadowlark and Sunflower,
Kansas? official state bird and flower. The flag of the state of
Kansas is in the background. The road number 1861 represents the
year the ?Sunflower State? was admitted into the
union.

This 50' standard
box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted Enchantment Blue
with Federal Safety Yellow sides, Franklin Carr's "Ches-C" logo w/
Kabel Chessie System lettering in Enchantment Blue and runs on
black Barber? roller bearing trucks. Built by Evans products for
the Western Maryland Railroad in 1967, these insulated cars carried
the mechanical designation "RBL" and were equipped with Evans
Hydra-Cushion underframes. All insulated boxcars during the Chessie
era were eligible to be painted with Federal Safety Yellow sides
and Enchantment Blue ends and markings. Franklyn Carr re-designed
the famous feline mascot "Ches-C" for the new identity of the
Chessie System. #36008 was serviced at Western Maryland's Elkins,
WV shops in October of 1977.

This 40? standard
box car with Superior door is painted yellow-orange with black roof
& ends, blue C&EI oval, "Speed Service" logo and runs on
black Allied full cushion trucks. In September 1945, the C&EI
purchased 5, 40'-6" IL express box cars from PSCMCO. Numbered 1-5
and equipped with Ajax power hand brakes, each car carried a
different slogan and ran with their passenger service to and from
Chicago through Illinois and Indiana. The slogans were: "Route of
the Dixie Limited,""Route of the Dixie Flyers,""Route of the Dixie
Flagler," "Chicago St. Louis Southwest," & "Chicago Evansville
Southeast."

This 50?
standard box car with plug door is painted a pale blue with olive
drab doors, ?Libby?s? shopping cart logo, black and white lettering
and runs on blue Barber? roller bearing trucks. Leased from
Transport Leasing by Libby?s Famous Foods, this car was built by
Pullman-Standard out of Michigan City, Indiana, in August 1963.
Transport Leasing is a Division of Pullman Incorporated. Number 35
is part of a seven-car order from lot 8822. Cars 35 thru 39 were
painted for Libby?s Famous Foods, while numbers 33 & 34 were
painted for the Jewell Tea Company. Some cars remained in their
original paint into the 1970s.

Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia
Road Number TAG 7016

This 50? wagon top box car with
double door has a dark blue body and black roof with yellow TAG
logo and lettering and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. This car
series is stenciled ?For Carpet Loading Only? and was most likely
designated to a carpet mill located along the TAG line. The TAG
passed into history in 1971 when it was purchased and merged into
the Southern Railway System.

and drop ends is painted mineral brown with white lettering and
runs on brown roller bearing trucks. ATSF 75045 was built in
January 1954 and was last serviced in April of 1974, at the Topeka,
Kansas shop. The Atchison & Topeka Railroad was chartered in
1859 to join the cities of Atchison and Topeka then planned to
continue southwest toward Santa Fe. ?Santa Fe? was added to the
corporate name in 1863.

black Barber? roller bearing trucks. SSW 88267 is AAR classed FB
for bulkhead flat cars, meaning it is equipped with fixed or
permanently attached movable bulkheads or ends a minimum of three
feet in height and has a flat floor for general commodity loading.
The St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company (AAR reporting mark
SSW), known by its nickname of ?The Cotton Belt Route? or simply
?Cotton Belt,? was organized on January 15,
1891.

and runs on black roller bearing trucks. SOO 63352 was built by
Thrall Car Manufacturing Company at Chicago Heights Terminal
Transfer in 1976, and was often seen hauling
scrap.

with reefer yellow sides, UP "Campbell's Soup" with "Automated Rail
Way" emblems, black lettering and runs on Archbar trucks with
aluminum sideframes and brown draft gear lid and coupler with brown
wheels. #160157 is one of the freight cars painted with the early
Automated Railway slogan and one of the few cars with the big U.P.
letters applied in 1962 in lieu of the traditional U.P. Shield. The
experimental square "Campbell's Soup" emblem did not last long, the
U.P. Shield had too long a history to
discard.
