 RS-11 Locomotive

New Paint Schemes!

The first RS-11s were produced by Alco in early 1956. This locomotive, classified by Alco as model DL-701, was their replacement for the very popular RS-3 road-switcher. Featuring a V-12, 1,800hp 251B diesel engine, the RS-11 was Alco?s answer to EMD?s very successful GP9. The turbocharged RS-11 accelerated faster, had a higher tractive effort rating and typically used less fuel than the competition. It was also quite versatile and could be found in heavy haul freight as well as passenger service.

The largest owner of RS-11?s was Norfolk & Western which purchased a total of 99 units (an additional 35 were added to the fleet after the merger with Nickel Plate). Other major purchasers included Northern Pacific, Pennsylvania and Southern Pacific, all of whom placed repeat orders. With approximately 426 units built for the US and Mexico over 8 years of production, the RS-11 was successful for Alco in that it provided ongoing competition for EMD?s popular road-switchers. A few examples of this model are still in service today and can be found working for various shortlines in the US.

Features:
-Full pilots
-AccuMate? couplers
-Golden-white LEDs
-Separate handrails and side sill

 SD35 Locomotives

New Paint Schemes & Road Numbers!

Between 1964 and 1966, EMD built a total of 360 six-axle 2,500hp SD35 locomotives. An additional 35 steam generator-equipped SDP35 locomotives were also built during this period. These were all part of EMD?s ?35-Series? which also featured the four-axle, 2,250hp GP35 locomotive. All locomotives included the standard EMD 567-series prime mover. A stock model weighed 360,000 pounds, but many roads chose to add weight to increase the locomotive?s tractive effort. From the mid-1960s through the 1980s, the SD-35 could be found in road service on both large and mid-sized roads across the US. Today the number of active units has dwindled to a select few, including those operated by regional railroad Montana Rail Link.

Features Include:
- Directional lighting
- Walkway safety tread
- Blackened metal wheels
- Scale Speed? motor
- Factory-equipped with AccuMate? knuckle couplers
- Painted handrails
- Golden-white LEDs

AccuMate? couplers are made under license from AccuRail, Inc.

 11, 000 Gallon Tank Car

New Paint Schemes & Road Numbers!

(Technical artwork shown)

Propane or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is both a naturally occurring product and a by-product of the refining process. During the 1940s, the petroleum industry began marketing LPG as a cleaner and more efficient fuel than the existing coal and oil. Transporting LPG requires specially designed high-pressure tank cars. During the early 40s the only ACF tank car that qualified was the 10,500 gallon high-pressure tank car. After the war, ACF set out to design a whole new car for the emerging industry. As a result the 11,000 gallon tank car was introduced by ACF in 1947. Many thousands were built up through the mid-1950s.

The Atlas model faithfully reproduces this late steam/early diesel era tank car in two versions (with and without platform rails). The cars with top platform rails were used where there was no elevated loading/unloading facility. The cars without the top platform rails were often specified for customers that had access to elevated loading and unloading facilities.

Features Include:
- Finely molded handrails
- Tank fittings and safety placards
- 50-ton friction-bearing trucks with AccuMate? couplers
- Accurate painting and lettering
- Platform where appropriate

AccuMate? couplers are made under license from AccuRail, Inc.
