O-6-0 Switcher Steam Locomotive
First Model in the Atlas O Founders? Series
(Technical
artwork shown)
The United States Railroad
Administration (USRA) was formed to control rail traffic and to
unify the maintenance and acquisition of equipment. From this
directive, the USRA developed standardized designs of locomotives
and freight cars that would meet the needs of railroads throughout
the country and yet would share design aspects to minimize the
number of types that would have to be produced. These standardized
locomotives and freight cars were based on proven and sound designs
and their longevity of service bear this out. This 0-6-0 steam
switcher is one of these standardized designs and could be found
across the United States on railroads big and small.

Berwick Forge &
Fabricating built over 23,000 freight cars in its nearly 20 years
of existence in Berwick, Pennsylvania. Their designs were very
successful and most of the cars are still in service today. While
Berwick built virtually all modern types of freight cars, they are
perhaps best known for their 50' and 60' box cars.
This Atlas O model replicates
the interesting series of 60' high-capacity cars that were built by
Berwick in the late 70s. These Hy-Cube cars feature centered double
plug-doors and a waffle pattern on the car sides.
Features Include:
- Intricately-detailed ABS body
- Etched metal safety platforms
- Finely die-cast metal ladders and
stirrups
- Highly-detailed die-cast
underframe
- Accurate painting and lettering
- 100-ton roller-bearing trucks with rotating
bearing caps
- Simulated paint overspray on
roof
- 3-Rail trucks are pre-drilled to accept
Atlas O Adjust-A-Couplers?
- Minimum diameter curve: O-54
(3-Rail)
- Minimum radius curve: 36"

accept Atlas O Adjust-A-Coupler?
- Highly detailed ABS body
- True 1/4" dimensions and details

ROAD NUMBERS & PAINT SCHEMES!
O PULPWOOD FLAT CAR
(Technical artwork
shown)
Pulpwood is not a specific
type of wood, but actually tree limbs that are cut to a specified
length, then turned into wood pulp and used in the paper industry.
Early paper making had the trees near the paper plant. As timber
resources were diminished, the need for transporting pulpwood began
to rise. Railroads were seen as an efficient method of transporting
pulpwood. Pulpwood in the Southeast and Northeast is generally cut
into four-foot or less lengths and loaded onto "V-deck" bulkhead
flat cars. The Atlas pulpwood flat is a reproduction of an early
1950s General Steel Castings "V-deck" design.
Available in 2-rail as well
as 3-rail, these ready-to-run freight cars have state-of-the-art
detailing and construction. This Atlas O model branches out to
reach the height of O model railroad accuracy.
A separate and simulated
detailed pulpwood load is also included.
Features
Include: -3-Rail trucks are pre-drilled to accept Atlas O
Adjust-A-Coupler?
-Die-cast articulated couplers (3-rail)
-Minimum diameter curve: O-27 (3-rail)
-Minimum radius curve: 24" (2-rail)
-Kadee-compatible scale couplers (2-rail)
Four road numbers are available per road
name.
