The EMD F Unit series of locomotives was dominant in the early ear of diesel locomotives. Used both in freight and passenger service, they proved to be durable and reliable.
The EMD F3 was a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW), B-B dual-service passenger and freight-hauling diesel locomotive produced between 1945 and 1949. The EMD F7 replaced the F3 in the EMD lineup and was also a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW), B-B dual-service passenger and freight-hauling diesel locomotive. It was produced between June 1949 and December 1953 by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel. Final assembly was at GM-EMD's La Grange, Illinois plant, excepting locomotives destined for Canada, in which case final assembly was at GMD's plant in London, Ontario.
This release includes a variety or F3 & F7 locomotives in a variety of schemes and road numbers. Athearn is also releasing a variety of Athearn Genesis EMD F Series Locomotive Power Mechanisms to upgrade your existing locomotives. All are available in DCC Ready & DCC w/Sound versions.
