A total of 25 units of the BNSF ES44C4 will be produced in the 6600-6624 road number range.  The ES44C4 is the latest addition to the General Electric Evolution™ Series locomotives with the ES44AC, ES44DC and ES44DCi preceding this locomotive.

The ES44C4 locomotives produced for BNSF are essentially a test bed group of locomotives so that BNSF and GE can evaluate the new traction motor configuration.  The ES44C4 has only 4 traction motors, where the ES44AC, ES44DC, and ES44DCi all have 6 traction motors - one motor per action.  The 4 traction motors of the C4 are placed on the outer axles of each set of trucks.  At extremely low speeds a mechanism ever so slightly lifts the center axle (the axle without a traction motor) and distributes the locomotive weight over the 4 traction motored axles.  This weight transfer then increases the effective tractive effort for the axles with traction motors.
 
The 25 units are just a small portion of the 350 locomotives the BNSF Railway will purchase in 2009.
 
The BNSF Railway ES44C4 presented by Overland Models, Inc in HO scale brass will be factory painted black/ orange/ yellow and silver with the new BNSF wedge scheme lettering, have directional headlights and ditch lights.  Power is provided by a Canon EN22 motor with dual flywheels.  An NMRA-compliant DCC plug will be factory-installed in all models enabling DCC modelers to install a digital decoder of their choice.  Kadee #58 couplers will be installed to add to the realistic detail of the model locomotive.

This locomotive is scheduled for delivery in the early portion of 2010.
