A NEW hardcover picture book of North American Locomotives - just like the title says.  The story of the different roads in pictures:

So What IS It?  It truly is what it says, "A Railroad-by-Railroad Photohistory."

It is a 10 x 12 inch, 277 page book filled with photographs, both black and white and color.  There is some text, to identify the road and some data, but it is mostly pictures.  And it is a railroad reference book listing ninety-three (93) railroads and showing their engines. 

Well known and little known, major roads or small locals, it is a great reference book.  The roads are entered from A to W (no Z) and include:  Amtrack, Arkansas & Missouri, Atchison, Topeka, Santa Fe (ATSF), Baltimore & Ohio, Bangor and Arrostock, Belt Railway of Chicago, Bessemer & Lake Erie,  Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Boston & Abany, Boston & Maine, Burlington Northern, Cal Train, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Central of New Jersey, Central Vermont, Chesapeake & Ohio, Chessie System, Chicago & Northwestern (C&NW), CB&Q, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific (Milwaukee Road), Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, Conrail, CSX, Dakota, Missorivalley & Western Railroad.....up to an including Wheeling & Lake Erie, Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, and Wisconsin Central Railroad.
