For the HO modelers and the "Special Period" modelers here are your 50' Exterior Post or Smooth Side Box Cars. These cars were first build in the late 60s and the early 70s. The Norfolk & Southern were built in 1971, the Canadian Pacific in 1974, the Montana Raillink in 1982, the Missouri Pacific in 1969 one of the first, the Canadian Nationa in 2003 one of the latest, inbetween, the CNW in 67, the Conrail in 76 and the BN and the Chessie WM both in 1982. So you can expand your consist if you model in any of these years and these are all still running on the rails between Chicago and Washington DC, from San Diego to Washington State, from LA to NY, Denver to Chicago and Main to Florida. Mix these up in random order just the way the prototypes do and keep 2 or 3 of the same road together. You might want to use the advanced search to locate RailBox to mix in with them. You may just have to get a 3 tandum set of MAC 70s or SD40s or the really powerful SD90/43MACs if you run 85 or more of these. However, for the early period modelers, the GP7s, GP9s, GP20s or GP30s will do fine. Have good clean fun and let your kids enjoy as well. Harold
