Kato (Japan) has announced various items for the month of December
Series 789-1000 “Kamui/Suzuran” - 5-Car Set
Series 789-1000 “Kamui/Suzuran” is a major express train for JR Hokkaido. The train operates as “Kamui” between Sapporo and Asahikawa and as “Suzuran” between Sapporo and Muroran. “Kamui” means “spiritual deity” in Ainu language, while “Suzuran” means “lily of the valley.” Series 789-1000 first debuted in 2007 as L-express, express including non-reserved seat cars, “Super Kamui” and as Rapid “Airport” to replace the conventional Series 789. In this model, Kato reproduces its distinctive characteristics, such as the headlights that resemble piercing eyes, the well balanced beautiful train composition, even though it is a short consist of only 5 cars. Against snow accretion, the underfloor-equipment is fully covered. A car with the reasonable reserved seats “U seats” unique to JR Hokkaido is included in the train. The train body is painted metallic silver, while the top car’s front is made of steel. Kato’s technique represents this fine difference in feelings of materials of the real train.
Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line 16000 (5th Train)
Kato will make an N-scale model of the latest 5th train operated on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line. The shape of the lead car lights is changed, compared with the conventional cars and the horizontal belts on the train, and are now changed into a combined brilliant yellow and green belts from the two-tone green. The 5th train was deployed in 2015 with additional designs, partially modified having an open space in every car and adopting a new ecological driving system with more consideration for the passengers and the environment.
• The prototype is the current train consist No.89 manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industry. Belongs to the Ayase depot.
• The different light shape is represented.
• The yellow and green color patterns below the front window and side belts on the body are accurately reproduced.
• The air conditioners and under-floor equipment now different from the previous model are represented with new parts
EF62 Late Stage Simonoseki Rail Yard
The EF62 Late Stage Simonoseki Engine Depot was in service on the Tokaido/Sanyo mainlines. It used to be operated as the main locomotive on the Shines mainline, well known for Usui Pass. When freight train service over the pass was abolished in 1984, 26 engines of the model were transferred to Shimonoseki Engine Depot to replace the EF58 on the Tokaido/Sanyo mainlines. They were seen used in various ways, sometimes pulling freight trains and extra passenger trains.
Post Cargo Train ”Tokaido/ Sanyo” Late Stage
Kato will make a post/freight train, which was in charge of the baggage transport on Tokaido/Sanyo mainlines in the age of JR. In 1968, pallet transport system started by new type pallet cars. Among them, MANI 44 is regarded as a completed form of pallet freight car. At first glance, it looks similar to a freight car. It was seen across Japan operating in combination with conventional freight cars and mail cars.
Hankyu Railway Series 9300 Kyoto Line
Series 9300 debuted in 2003 an express with cross seats on the Kyoto line. Even consisting of 3-door cars, the train is dignified as an express, taking over the traditional cross seats. In October, 2019, Station name Umeda was changed into Osaka Umeda, Kawaramachi, into Kyoto Kawaramachi. The train destination displays are changed accordingly. These models will be provided with different car numbers from the original products.
