PROTOTYPE AND BACKGROUND INFO:

In 1974, Freightliner introduced its first conventional model, an adaptation of the high “Cab over engine” (COE) mainstay product. A “Cab over engine” (COE) or “flat nose” is where the driver is seated above the front axle and the engine. They were common in North American heavy-duty trucks, but lost prominence when permitted length was extended in the early 1980s.

The 28’ trailer provided LTL service for instances where a full size trailer would not be the most efficient. Splitting a haul into two creates more efficiency as one trailer can be spotted and then the second taken to a different destination without repacking. Many of the 28’ trailers can be seen in TOFC service to this day.

MODEL FEATURES:

• Factory assembled with many detail parts applied

• Clear window glazing

• Different cab/trailer numbers from the single Freightliner Truck and 28’ Trailer set

• Molded cab interior with separately applied steering wheel

• Rubber tires
