Kato (Japan) has announced New!..
8620 Steam Locomotive Tohoku (North-East)

Kato will manufacture a scale model of the 8620 Steam Locomotive, which was in
service in the Tohoku (north-east) regions in the JNR period. This N-scale model is the first ever produced by Kato.
Despite its production in 1914, many of the engines were used as traction locomotives on branch lines or as switchers in yards thanks to its highversatility, even after World War II. Particularly in Tohoku regions, the steam locomotive is famous for the triple-heading locomotive consist with freight trains on the Hanawa line and of mixed trains on the Gono line.
This model can be used by connecting to passenger cars and freight cars in the JNR period. It can be used in short trains or by connection to a long freight train with triple-heading locomotives, just like the real train. A snow plow is included with the locomotive for installation if desired.
Hanawa Line Freight Train 8-Car Set (Especially Planned)

Kato will make a scale model of the freight train set pulled by the 8620 steam locomotive.

REMU 5000 is produced for the first time by Kato. The prototype freight car was the last two-axle refrigerated freight car of the JNR, manufactured between 1964 and 1969. Depending on the manufacturing period, the roof shape varies and can be separated to those made earlier (5000〜) and those manufactured later (6000〜). The REMU 5000 is characterized with better heat insulating capacity than conventional refrigerating cars. The horizontal blue belt was painted to show this capacity.
Train composition examples

Series 227-0 “Red Wing” 6-Car Set

Kato will make a model of series 227-0 commuter/suburban electric trains operating in the Hiroshima region.
Series 227 appeared in 2014 to succeed the JNR type electric trains, which had been in service in the region. They replaced all trains, such as series 115 and 105, by March, 2019.
Six-car trains can be composed at the maximum by combining 3-car train sets and 2- car train sets, with each other, allowing flexible train composition and operation. Series 227 are featured with the design united in red color which will remind the passengers of the big torii gate of the Itsukushima Shrine or autumnal maple foliage in Hiroshima. The trains are nicknamed “Red Wing”.
DE 10 Diesel Locomotive JR Kyushu Version

The popular DE 10 JR Kyushu version scale model will be now sold as a single product.
DE10 featured with black body, red run boards and golden handrails started with the overall black color painting made in 2010 for TV broadcasting, leading to the repainting of all the eight DE10 locomotives in this color scheme. The locomotive was used as a switcher on yards and drew trains for maintenance as well as “cruise train Seven Stars in Kyushu” and extra trains “Twilight Express”.
Series E26 “Cassiopeia” 6-Car Basic Set

Kato will release the scale model of series E26 “Cassiopeia”, famous night train travelling from metropolitan Ueno northward to Sapporo in Hokkaido, this time in the basic car set and the add-on car set both consisting of passenger cars alone.
The real train appeared in 1999 as a new sleeper train ranked even higher than “North Star” and was operated between Ueno and Sapporo under the name of “Cassiopeia”. When the inauguration of Hokkaido Sinkansen bullet train line rendered the Seikan Tunnel leading to Hokkaido usable only by Shinkansen and freight trains, the night train ceased the regular operation. Currently it is operated only as an excursion train named “Travelogue Cassiopeia” and “Cassiopeia Cruise”.
This product will be released with locomotive head marks to make it possible to reproduce the night express train regularly operated in the heyday by connecting it to the locomotive on hand with the head mark.
EF81 Cassiopeia Color

Kato will make a scale model of EF81 Cassiopeia Color in the dedicated color scheme to draw series E26 “Cassiopeia”.
Simultaneously with the start of “Cassiopeia” operation, 3 locomotives EF81 (Nos. 79, 89 and 92) were repainted in the paint scheme dedicated to “Cassiopeia”. It is characterized with yellow, orange and blue color patterns on the white background. They were seen pulling not only “Cassiopeia” but also “North Star”, “Akebono” and freight trains. No. 99 replaced No.89 in 2008 and was called and operated since then as “Cassiopeia” color until EF510 appeared in June, 2010.
Car Set 2 (1990’s Nissan) Of 8 Pcs

New series 1990’s Nissan cars now join Kato’s accessory model autos. When the railroad transport of autos was restarted from Nissan Auto Tochigi Factory, car carriers KU 5000 were repainted in tricolor, then corporate color of Nissan. Combined in the auto- transport-dedicated trains, etc., they carried the cars manufactured by the factory from Utsunomiya to Yokohama Hommoku port (for exports) and Chidoricho (for domestic distributions). Selecting “Cedric” and “Pulsar”, cars often seen carried by KU 5000, as the prototypes, Kato will make and release a scale model car set of 8 pcs. in 7 colors.
