This detailed Atlas HO Scale Master Gold EMD SD26 is based on units which began life as 2,400-horsepower SD24 diesel road units produced by EMD between July 1958 and March 1963. In the 1970s Santa Fe began a rebuilding program which ultimately saw 80 units rebuilt as 2,650-horsepower SD26s. the units remained in service until the late 1980s and a batch of units sold to Guilford-Springfield Terminal soldiered on into the 1990s and early 2000s. This Atlas model features details unique to each roadname and working ditch lights if appropriate. Other features include a five-pole skewed-armature motor with dual flywheels, directional LED lighting, all-metal magnetic knuckle couplers, accurate decoration and roadname-appropriate body phase details. Plenty of applied details and realistic decoration for both prototype and fantasy "what if" schemes round out the detailed models. This EMD SD26 replica comes equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound Select sound and DCC decoder with Full Throttle effects for operation on DCC and DC layouts. The EMD SD26 is one of many Atlas and Trainman HO Scale locomotives.
PROTOTYPE INFORMATION:
With over 220 units produced by EMD between July 1958 and March 1963, the SD-24 locomotive generated a total of2,400 hp with its turbocharged 567D-3 prime mover and C-C wheel arrangement. The majority of SD-24s produced were purchased by four roads: Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Santa Fe, Southern, and Union Pacific. Atlas’ HO scale model features details unique to each road name:
* Burlington (CB&Q): High nose, single-chime air horn on short hood, Gyra-light on short hood (non-operating), winterization hatch
* Santa Fe: Low nose, 3-chime horn mounted on left side of hood behind cab
* Guilford 615, 643 & MAERSK (ATSF) equipped with ditch lights
