Already Flying off the shelves! HO intermodal with new SceneMaster 20' and 45' Containers
With fast sellout of WalthersMainline intermodal well cars and container versions of the 85' General American G85 and 60' Pullman-Standard Flatcars, modelers are on the lookout for appropriate container loads.
Those modeling the 1960s and 1970s are loading containers on the G85 and 60' P-S flatcars, You’ll need the 20' Smooth-Side Containers since these were typically used when intermodal traffic was in its early years and lasted into the early 1980s.
40' containers were soon added into the mix and by the mid-1970s had become the worldwide standard and are still in widespread use today. But, shippers wanted larger containers and in the 1980s the 45' CIMC Container became common for North American use.
Longer 48' and 53' containers entered domestic service in the 1990s.
So, if you model the:
1960s and 1970s, grab the 20' Smooth-Side Containers for their flatcars.
1980s-2000s modellers will be looking for the 45' CIMC Containers for their well cars.
SceneMaster models of all of these containers have recently arrived, so make sure you get the flatcars as well!
