Atlas has announced new PS-4000 Hoppers

In response to a growing need for more efficient ways to load and unload bulk products like grain, malt or chemical fertilizers, in the early 1960s Pullman-Standard introduced the PS-2CD, or Center Discharge covered hopper. Available with a variety of linings or interior coatings to handle either food-grade materials or chemical products, these purpose-built cars rapidly supplanted the use of the common boxcar for loose bulk commodity traffic. This 4000 cubic foot / 100 ton car was produced between 1962 and 1964, and could be found in revenue service across North America for over 40 years from the 1960s through the early 2000’s. The Atlas models of these commonly seen cars feature fine scale detailing, etched roofwalks and brake platforms, accurate painting and lettering, prototypical ride height and trucks.
