Many of our customers were asking
"What's the difference between the Stripes As Delivered and the Stripes In Service versions?"
"If I want the latest version, I would need to order the one that says Stripes in service version?"
"This manufacturer, is new to North America, what did they produce before? How would they compare to other manufacturers?"
Here's the answers you're looking for!
The SD60Fs were not applied with any dot striping as far as we are aware. The locomotives received reflective yellow stripes across the front/rear steps and side ladder in the early 90s, in addition to markings for the fire extinguisher. This is reflected on the ‘In Service’ paint scheme variant.
If you are modelling early 90s and beyond, select the ‘In Service’ version. If you are modelling 1989-early 90s, select the ‘As Delivered’ version. You can always take the ‘As Delivered’ version and add your own stripes to bring it ‘up to date’.
To make this a little easier to notice, we've added blue arrows to show you where the Yellow Stripes and Fire Extinguisher markings are on the In Service, and As Delivered Versions.
Aurora Miniatures have done HO locomotives before, but none of which were for US and Canadian modellers. We were given permission to share a bottom detail shot of their previous locomotive project - a Chinese switcher. Have a look at the level of detail! The SD60F’s detailing will be at around the same level as the foreign locomotive model.

Our HO Scale GMD SD60F is designed from the ground up and manufactured with the most cutting-edge technology available today. It comes completely assembled, ready to run, with optional DCC and sound functionality.
Prototype information:
The SD60Fs were built by General Motors Diesel (GMD) in London, Ontario, Canada between 1985 and 1989. It is a unique Canadian variant of the popular EMD SD60 series 6-axle diesel-electric freight locomotives, featuring a full width cowl body and cab, with a tapered section immediately behind the cab for improved rear visibility.
A total of 64 ‘Draper Taper’ units were built, all for the Canadian National Railway. They saw extensive mainline freight service on the CN network across Canada and in the United States. All units were retired by CN in 2017 and several units are still being used by second-hand owners today.
