After World War II, many railroads had a need for new box cars. Modern 40 ft box cars like these were in use from the 1950's to 1980's. They appeared in many schemes and were seen all across North America. Many were sold and used by new operators leading to an even wider array of schemes. Today, these cars no longer ride the rails, but numerous examples can be seen in museums, parks and rail related facilities where they serve as storage and work areas.
