OPERATION LIFESAVER IS A MISSION DRIVEN RAIL SAFETY EDUCATION NON-PROFIT POWERED BY DEDICATED PEOPLE.

OUR GOAL IS TO END COLLISIONS, DEATHS AND INJURIES ON AND AROUND RAILROAD TRACKS AND TRAINS.

Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) is a non-profit organization and nationally-recognized leader of rail safety education. Since 1972, Operation Lifesaver remains dedicated to preventing collisions, injuries and fatalities on and around railroad tracks and highway-rail grade crossings, with the support of public education programs in states across the U.S. including:

• Free in-person and virtual safety presentations across the U.S.

• Free in-person and virtual programs for professional drivers, first responders and school bus drivers.

In 1966 EMD introduced a new line of locomotives based on the 16-cylinder 645-series prime mover. The “40-series” included a six-axle and four-axle model, the latter being the GP40. A total of 1,145 units were produced between 1966 and 1972. These turbocharged 3,000hp locomotives were used primarily in road freight service. The GP40 was a versatile locomotive that could be found across the US hauling drag freights over mountain passes and leading high-speed intermodal trains across flat terrain. Three rooftop radiator fans at the rear of the long hood differentiate a GP40 from its lower horsepower counterpart, the GP38, which has two fans at this location.

This model is a collaboration between Atlas and Operation Lifesaver, Inc., in celebration of Operation Lifesaver’s 50th Anniversary in 2022. The locomotive features a distinctive metallic gold and black paint scheme, decorated with Operation Lifesaver’s brand new anniversary logo and will be equipped with operating ditch lights (N & HO Scale).
