ED76 551 Electric Locomotive
● ED76 551 is a locomotive which was created by conversion of locomotive No. ED6-514 made in 1989 for passing through the Seikan tunnel referring in design to No. ED76-514 used on Hakodate Mainline. Along with the conversion, the body paint scheme was also changed from the mono red color to the two colors, upper part remaining red and the lower part altered into grey, separated by a horizontal white line. Then the Seikan tunnel was just opened and ED76 was short in the number. So there was originally a plan to convert more ED76, but only this one ED76 551 was actually converted.
● After the conversion, the locomotive belonged to Seikan train depot and, along with ED79, drew trains “North Star”, “Elm”, “Nihonkai (Japan Sea)”, “Kaikyo (Strait)”, “Hamanasu(Rosa rugose)”on Tsugaru Strait line through the Seikan tunnel. This locomotive was, however, different from ED79 in the stopping position in stations and needed to be attended in the operation. So it was intensively used to pull “Twilight Express” in the later years.
◆ The distinctive color scheme of 2 colors based on ED76-500 accurately reproduced
◆ Wireless antenna for JR trains are supplied (A mark indicating the spot to make a hole for the antenna exists on the reverse side of the roof)
◆ Head marks are supplied (“Kaikyo” and #Elm”)
※ Recommendable as a locomotive to draw Kato Series 24 “Twilight Express” planned for the release in November.
