Dear HO Scale Customers;
This is a friendly reminder that the pre-order deadline for our brand new upcoming HO Amtrak Viewliner II Baggage cars is swiftly approaching – please be sure to have all of your orders turned in (either to us or to your preferred distributors) by Tuesday, August 31st at the end of the day! This is very important for us to determine our production quantities to ensure that nobody misses out on these exciting new car releases!
The Viewliner II are Amtrak’s newest addition to its fleet of single-level rolling stock. Right now Amtrak is operating the baggage cars wearing a special “Phase III heritage” paint scheme that combines the classic red-white-and-blue stripes with Amtrak’s new modern logo and the phrase “Amtrak America.”
Kato USA’s release of the Amtrak Viewliner II Baggage Car is planned for release in February, 2022. This release will also be available with pre-installed interior lighting (March, 2022).
The Superliner I fleet was built in 1979 by Pullman Standard. Amtrak's Superliners were based on the famous Budd built Hi-Levels operated by the Santa Fe railroad, for their El Capitan all-coach train. Amtrak passenger trains can run with a variety of car combinations, including lounge cars, dining cars, and sleepers on longer distance trains, with shorter trains running mostly coaches with perhaps a dining car and a coach/baggage car. Amtrak Superlines run all over the country (with the exception of the northeast corridor, where high roofs and low tunnel cielings pose a dangerous combination).
Superior Detailing: All Kato Superliner cars and Material Handling Cars come with preinstalled detailing and thin railings. The passenger cars have complete upper and lower level interior detailing (which can be lit with the installation of an optional interior lighting kit 7-504), prototypical fluting on the exterior of the cars, and flush mounted and tinted windows. All cars have smooth rolling trucks with working bearing caps and shock absorber construction, and are weighted for a hefty feel and performance. The included Kinematic tight-lock couplers can be installed on both passenger and MHC's.
Lighting Options: Both the Material Handling Cars and Passenger Cars have been designed for the easy installation of a marker light kit #958046. Simply remove a plate from the bottom of the car, insert the light board, and close it again to create a lighted marker light for the tail end of your Superliner consist.
