This covered hopper model is based on a late 1970s 263,000 lbs GRL (Gross Rail Loading) 4750 cubic-foot capacity designed by Thrall Car primarily for grain transport.
If you bought the Ann Arbor locomotives in the last 6 months, these would be a nice and colorful part of the consist.
Kansas City Southern is a road to watch. They have strengthened their position in the RR community by merging with the Tex Mex corporation and painted the locomotives in the KCS Red/Yellow/Black color scheme and called it Kansas City Southern de Mexico. When UP bought up SP and Santa Fe, the Texas terminal went into a termoil for power. But when KCS and Tex Mex merged, an interesting thing happened. The only way to ship by rail to Mexico is to pass through the KCS-Tex Mex terminal. All of a sudden, the power struggle became even instead of lopsided. At that point, KCS invested heavily in all new rail on several legs of their system and now they are able to move at high speeds making them a desirable RR to ship with. So, get these while they last. While you are at it, there are beautiful 3 bay covered hoppers in the KCS color scheme and there are georgeous ES44ACs in KCS and KCS de Mexico. Have fun. Harold
Add color and contrast with this BN in it's brilliant Green and add the contrast of the Texas Gulf in a flat gray with black lettering.
You may say 8 is only a start of a decent consist, but be of good chear, more will be on the way and the wait will be more than half of the fun. And don't foget to searcdh for the KCS covered hoppers in the KCS paint scheme to add to these.
