Dear HO Scale Customers;
Moloco has announced the ACF 50 ft Exterior Post Hi-Cube Waffle Boxcars w/ 8+8 Plug Doors & Parts
ACF Industries (ACF) started producing this general type of 70t Hi-Cube exterior post designed car in 1971, the design developed further in 1972-3 which is the prototype of this car. Specifically this version is a 100 ton car with Lading Band Anchors. We believe this car design was tailored to one type of commodity Pulp Board to make cardboard boxes at several plant locations. The Hi-Cube height was important to accommodate various sizes of paper rolls, with either one-high, two-high or three-high depending on internal or external customer requests. The Plate clearance for these cars pre-dates the Plate F introduction so they were marked with Exceeds Plate C.
Note: that this scheme used a unique Super in the S-SC logo that was painted in ORANGE not the more typical yellow. Also the cushioning used were Keystone SA-20s so received the Super Shock Control logo.
This design lasted a long time and there are still running around to this day.
DESIGN FEATURES
Another INNOVATION from MOLOCO!
We heard our customers wanting a Nickel-Plated wheelset, but we just didn't want to produce just a plain old nickel wheelset. We know that our high fidelity customers will want to paint them, so we took the "middle-man" out of the situation and had them pre-painted a dark brown/rust, ready for trucks as is or you can add some additional weathering with powders or paint.
The paint is baked onto the wheelsets for more durability than wet paint. With only the treads being exposed with the nickel finish. Just the real ones.
PLEASE NOTE: the paint finish is durable but not indestructible.
Our PRE-PAINTED 33-inch STANDARD 0.110" width tread wheelsets with back contour are insulated and are nickel-plated. They are precision CNC-machined brass wheelsets that can be used universally with our trucks and others. The axle length is 1.005". Use them as replacements to get a very prototypical tread and contour in all types of cars.
