Gondolas have been used since the early 1900s to transport a variety of bulk materials. Thanks to their low sidewalls, gondolas are suitable for a wide range of cargo, from steel plates to ballast, coils, scrap metal, and more bulky items such as track segments.

Based on a popular steel gondola design first appearing on railroads in the late 1920s, the Bachmann 40' Gondola comes in a variety of authentic railroad colors appropriate for a wide range of eras.

Each gondola is fully assembled and features a highly detailed painted body with precision graphics, blackened machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, magnetically operated E-Z Mate couplers, and added weight for optimum tracking performance.
