Pullman standard assembled 1,916 at the company's plant in Butler, PA from 10-1967 to 7-1972. Distinctive with 16 ribs along the side and 2/5 rivet pattern where the corner posts attach to the carbody. Penn Central was the largest customer for these covered hoppers, with more than 1,700 on its roster. With the demise of Penn Central, the rise and break-up of Conrail, these covered hoppers began to spread out in the 1990s to other railroads. In order to accurately capture the character of this era. Intermountain is approaching a number of these paint schemes as "Faded & Patched". Two of these new announcements capture the lineage of 3 or more of the predecessor railroads with New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, CSX all being represented on one car. A number of these cars did make it out west post Conrail; Burlington Northern picked up a group of these cars and began patching and repainting cars throughout their service for the railroad.
