● Item Introduction
The EF58 was introduced in 1946 to meet the post-war passenger transport demands. Initially, it had a box-shaped body, but it was later upgraded with a streamlined body. A total of 172 units were built by 1958. Notably, unit 89, equipped with icicle cutters, was painted in Wine Red No. 2 and pulled event trains during the latter part of JNR's era in 1984. Although it was repainted in standard colors at times, it was the only EF58 with icicle cutters among the few remaining operational units, gaining popularity. It continued to pull various event trains until 1999 and is now preserved as an exhibit at the Omiya Railway Museum.
◆ The EF58, featuring icicle cutters and the distinctive Wine Red No. 2 livery, is now available in HO gauge. It is recommended as a locomotive for the 1-501 to 503 (HO) Series 12 passenger cars currently on sale, as well as for the 1-512 and 514 (HO) Oha Series 35 and 1-552 and 553 (HO)Passenger Car SUHA 43, scheduled for release in September.
