


After World War II, many North American railroads turned to Pullman Standard to replace their aging boxcar fleets. First produced between 1947 and 1949, the Pullman Standard PS-1 40-foot boxcar soon became the general service freight workhorse of the postwar era. Thousands of PS-1s served on large and small railroads as well as private shippers all across the country. Many of these well-built cars lasted well into the 1980s.
