Prototype Background
Considered one of the most common early tank car designs, American Car & Foundry (ACF) Type 27 tank cars were built from the late 1920s through the 1940s. These specialized cars were typically privately owned for revenue service, as railroads themselves generally maintained only a small number for non-revenue uses such as fuel transport.
Broadway Limited Imports are pleased to present the Type 27 tank car, the slightly elongated successor to the earlier Type 21 design. These insulated, high-pressure cars were commonly used to transport home heating fuels such as propane and butane, as well as other commodities including anhydrous ammonia, chlorine, and methyl chloride. Broadway Limited Imports model represents the 6,000-gallon variant, frequently used in chlorine service.
These meticulously detailed single-chamber tank cars are offered in convenient two-pack sets. See below for additional model features.
