After the formation of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, it became necessary to renumber vast amounts of locomotives of both Santa Fe and Burlington Northern heritage in the new combined system. Repainting entire units for simple renumbering would be cost ineffective and slow. The solution was to supply “patch kits” of vinyl numbers to renumber existing units into the consolidated roster.

KATO USA is pleased to announce a limited amount of patched Santa Fe units under its Kobo (or custom) line of products. Each model is painstakingly researched and modified by our skilled staff to represent a current BNSF “patch” unit.
