Dear N Scalers: One of our Customers has a number of Atlas N-Scale engines for sale that have shells from recent releases (in the last two years) with internal mechanisms from earlier releases (since 2001).

As described, these engines resulted from our Customers desire to convert 14 Atlas locomotives from releases between 2001 to 2004 or 2005 which had frames that were not digital decoder ready to DCC.

To make the conversion, he purchased 14 newer-release Atlas locomotives that were decoder-ready, removed the shells from the newer engines, installed decoders and then took the shells from his earlier released locos and put them on the newer frames with the decoders.  He then took the shells from the newer releases and put them on the frames from the earlier releases.

This leaves our Customer with 14 Atlas locomotives with new recently released shells (with the newer tooling, lighted numberboards and Accumate couplers) on frames that run very well but are not DCC ready.  The Atlas product number, locomotive type, road name and road number for these models are as follows:

These are perfectly good, well-functioning locos – they just aren’t DCC ready.  Our customer is guessing that some model railroader out there who isn’t running DCC and doesn’t plan to convert to DCC would be perfectly happy with one or more of these.

Our Customer would be happy to sell these models at $45 per loco to recover some of his costs and give someone a very good deal at the same time.
