The 1500 horse power EMD F7 was built from early February 1949 to late 1953 by EMD & GMD in Canada. Originally desinged for freight service, these units never the less went on to passenager service. With over 3800 A & B units built, it was the best selling cab unit to be produced. These locomotives went on to long service lives, with many continueing to be used in the United States into the 1970's and some in Canada into the 1980's. Today, while gone from mainline use, some can still be found in service with shortlines or at museums.
