Amtrak Superliner cars entered service in 1979 and were a major step forward. The Pullman-Standard design was inspired by the earlier Santa Fe El Capitan Hi-Level cars. It used a common car body which could be built out as a coach-baggage car, coach with larger seats, sleeper and a diner. 284 Superliner I cars were produced. In the following years, Amtrak added the Superliner II version of the cars whick included a lounge variant. Today, both versions of the Superliner remain in service and are seen together in most long distance Amtrak trains. The only region they do not operate in is the Northeast, where Viewliner cars are used for their lower height. Over the years, these cars have been painted in all of the Amtrak paint schemes up to and including Phase IVb.

Features:

  • Available in HO Scale from Kato USA for the first in Phase IVb with Amtrak’s current paint and logo (officially licensed)
  • Kato superliners run on all-metal wheels with rotating bearing caps for an operating look that’s as close to reality as you can get without buying your own short line
  • This new release of HO Superliners has been redesigned to make them capable of operating on 370mm (14 3/5”) radius curves
  • 100% ready to run: no customer applied detail parts needed
  • Lights! Camera! Action!: Kato’s HO Superliners have fully detailed interiors and clear plastic windows to take advantage of optional 7-504 interior lighting kits or customer-added passengers! Additionally, optional available light circuits can be easily installed to put directional marker lights on the Coach, Diner, or Sleeper cars, or interior lights in the Lounge – no tools or disassembly required
  • This release includes a coach, sleeper, dining car and lounge
  • These go perfectly with the new Kato HO Scale GE P42 Genesis Locos
