Kato is packing these up now to ship out. These are a newly tooled model from Kato that goes perfectly with modern Amtrak trains.

You can't really have a long distance passenger train without baggage cars. Kato has now tooled up a new model for Amtrak in the 1200 Series baggage cars. These cars, part of Amtrak's Heritage Fleet, were built by Budd and ACF between 1950 and 1957.
As part of the Heritage Fleet, these cars were inherited by Amtrak from railroads ceasing passenger service. The cars were converted over from steam heating to head end power in the 1970's. Currently, Amtrak still has over 60 of these cars in service.
These are mainly used on the long distance routes that use Viewliner equipment in the eastern United States. These cars are also part of the Amtrak Exhibit Train originally started as part of Amtrak's 40th Anniversary in 2011. These cars are to be phased out of service as the new Viewliner Baggage cars enter service over the next few years. Even so, it is likely that some of these cars will remain in service for years to come.
