Pacific Western Rail Systems is pleased to announce another PWRS Exclusive Micro-Trains product, two 57 ft TOFC Ontario Northland Flat Car w/Schneiders Foods Trailer 3-Packs.

Each pack will contain three Ontario Northland (ONT) 57 ft Converted TOFC Flat Cars painted blue with white lettering and zig zag herald, and carrying a Schneiders  Trailer, painted bright blue and orange, and sporting the familiar Schneiders logo.

• Pack 1: 2 cars will have the clear, new ‘face’ logo on trailer, 1 will be faded
• Pack 2: 1 car will have the clear, new ‘face’ logo on trailer, 2 will be faded

The Ontario Northland Railway (reporting mark ONT) is a Canadian railway operated by the ONTC. The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (Ontario Northland), an Agency of the Province of Ontario, was established in 1902 and is a recognized leader in promoting sustainable economic growth by establishing and operating transportation and telecommunication links throughout Northern Ontario.

Ontario Northland’s operations encompass more than 1,100 km of track, including vital rail freight services into the far north, bus service to 56 communities, telecom services in 40 communities, as well as manufacturing (refurbishment) facilities.

Headquartered in North Bay and operating primarily in Northeastern Ontario, Ontario Northland’s non commercial (provincially-mandated) services include: the Polar Bear Express (passenger train service between Cochrane and Moosonee); and rail freight services between Cochrane and Moosonee. Commercial services include: Ontera telecommunications services; rail freight services; refurbishment services; and scheduled and charter motor coach services and Bus Parcel Express

Originally built to develop the Lake Timiskaming and Lake Nipissing areas, the railway soon became a major factor in the economic growth of the province. After decades of difficult construction through the Canadian Shield, workers reached James Bay in 1932. While blasting the route through the shield, geologists discovered deposits of valuable minerals such as gold, silver, copper and nickel. The railway also made it possible to exploit the timber resources of Northern Ontario.

Schneider Foods, known for over 120 years for their quality meats, is one of Canada's largest producers of premium quality food products. 

John Metz (J.M.) Schneider was a Canadian businessman and founder of Schneider Foods, in Kitchener, Ontario. In 1886, after an accident at the button factory where he was working left him unemployed, he, his wife and his mother began making sausages which they sold door to door. The company grew and survived the Grea.t Depression, becoming one of the largest meat producers in Canada. It specialized in wieners, luncheon meat, sausage and other forms of specialty and delicatessen meats, and was the first company in Canada to introduce vacuum packaging.

Although, Schneiders Foods was acquired by rival Maple Leaf Foods in 2003, the Schneiders name and logo still appears on its products.

Below are illustrations of the graphics to be used on these cars and trailers. The sides of these trailers are familiar to many of our customers in Canada and we thank those who have provided pictures of these. However, the ends are not so familiar and we are still reviewing pictures of this trailers to finalize the artwork. We would be happy to review any pictures of the ends of these trailers that modelers may have to ensure the most accurate paint schemes possible.
