Rivarossi

Dear HO Scale Customers: We were contacted by Rivarossi and few months ago and it was suggested to us, they were going to run 38ft Log Cars and we asked if they would consider finally doing them in Canadian Roads.

So today they called us and said they had just shipped from Hong Kong 4 special runs of their log car as we had suggested in West Coast Canadian road names.

There are only 84 copies of each road number available! Since they are already on the ship, there will be no pre-order period.

They have 2 packages of CPR (two different cars per pack), a total of 4 road numbers. One package (2 cars) of PGE, Comox Valley, and Esquimalt RR each. Since we have over 20,000 customers world wide, these will be available on first come basis. So please get your requests in ASAP.

One other note: We were told Rivaossi has 2 truck Heislers coming, and the only 2 truck Heisler that would be appropriate for the cars coming is the one Comox Valley Railway has on Vancouver Island.

So Rivarossi said if we can get enough customers who want the Engine they would consider doing it. It would either come in DC (DCC Ready) or DCC with sound.

The Heisler was invented in 1891 and Charles L. Heisler received a patent in 1892 and made an impact on the logging industry of the United States through the turn of the century and on into 1941 when it was still being run regularly.  Although it was considered the fastest of the geared steam locomotives, the notoriety of the Heisler came from its pulling capabilities. The high tractive effort was perfectly suited for moving long, heavy strings of loaded log cars both on flat ground and uphill. On the two-truck model, the cylinders were centrally located under the drive shaft.  These locomotives were set apart from the rest by the cylinders being slanted inwards at a 45 degree angle. The center shaft only drove one axle per truck as the wheels in each truck were connected with a side rod.  There were around 625 Heislers produced, ranging from 17 tons to 95 tons.

Use the Heisler for what it was created for and pull the new 38 foot die-cast skeleton log cars also produced by Rivarossi. The Comox Valley logs cars have matching road names corresponding with the Heisler locomotives.
