  These SD40-2 locomotives are painted black and decorated with a large MILW orange band on the side. The cabs are decorated with the red, white & black slanted “The Milwaukee Road” logo, and “Milwaukee Road” letters are painted on the nose. These locos were built in July of 1972 by Electro Motive Division for Milwaukee Road as part of build order 7396. Originally numbered in the 3000-3040 series and later renumbered in 130-170 series. The EMD SD40-2 is a 3,000 horsepower (2,240 kW) model of C-C diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between January 1972 and February 1986; 3,957 examples were built, and every class 1 railroad in North America has operated this locomotive. The SD40-2 is one of the best-selling diesel locomotive models of all time.
