The prototypes for this series were in regular use from 1950 to the late 1970's. These hoppers were used only by Canadian railways. "Slab-Sides" carried numerous kinds of bulk powdered commodities that had to be kept dry; from A (agricultural chemicals) to Z (zinc dust).
We have released several different variations for the four Canadian railways that owned these unique cars; Canadian Pacific Railway, Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo, Canadian National Railway, and Pacific Great Eastern.
For more history of the Canadian Slab Sided Covered Hoppers, see the article: "The Smooth Canadian" by Ken Goslett in the August 1986 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman.
