Available On: August 1, 2009
Prototype Information The SD45 is a reliable, heavy-duty locomotive that has been utilized by many different North American railroads at one time or another since its 1965 introduction to the railroading scene. Noteworthy as the first diesel locomotive with an engine of more than 16 cylinders, EMD would eventually build 1260 of these 3600-horsepower road switcher units in less than six years! More than twenty-five railroads bought these units new, and several more purchased them second-hand. Some of these users applied more than one paint scheme to the sides of the SD45 as well. A distinguishing mark of the SD45 is the flared radiator along the top edge of the long hood?s midsection.
Model Features - While maintaining the traditional KATO five-pole motor with dual brass flywheels, wired all-wheel electrical pick-up and precision craftsmanship and detail, these models will also be updated with the following features: * Bright-WhiteNULL LED headlight * Knuckle couplers * Printed numberboards * MU hoses * Cab sun shades * Windshield wipers * Dynamic brake ''T-Vent'' Some detail pieces require hobbyist installation. These models will be factory-equipped with a DCC socket.
Kato's HO EMD SD45 has long been an excellent performing locomotive; a workhorse that can tackle anything a modeler can throw at it. Previously requiring detail parts installation, now we can offer our customers the HO EMD SD45 at a competetive price with all the detail parts installed to make this excellent locomotive ready to run; perfect for the casual modeler or the customer who may not have the ability or will to put the parts on themselves.
