Once known as “America’s Railroad”, as it stretched nearly coast to coast, the Mighty UP is made up of a number of member railroads. For a while, the corporate thinking was that wherever the UP went, the Armour Yellow and Grey would go with it. Recently, however, the UP has chosen to acknowledge their rich heritage and painted up a set of locomotives to reflect the colors and logos of their past. Of course, the N Scale Collector says you can never go far enough when it comes to colorful rolling stock, so here is our idea on what UP should do to make their Cabooses reflect their vast history. The examples are the “Mighty Union Pacific Series” and include the Southern Pacific Speed Lettering, Rio Grande’s 5 Stripe, the Missouri Pacific Screaming Eagle, the Missouri Kansas Texas “Katy”, C&NW and the Western Pacific’s Feather River Route schemes. If only the UP would hear our pitch, these could be on the real rails and not just proudly operated on N Scale layouts everywhere......
