These SD40-2 powered locomotives are painted yellow and blue with blue roofs and yellow ends. Lettering is yellow. They were built in 1977 by Electro Motive Division for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe as part of build order 776031. The locos in this series went through a rebuild in the early 1990s, and later were used in the BNSF fleet after the merger in 1996. The EMD SD40-2 is a 3,000 horsepower (2,240 kW) model of C-C diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between January 1972 and February 1986; 3,957 examples were built, and every class 1 railroad in North America has operated this locomotive. The SD40-2 is one of the best-selling diesel locomotive models of all time.
