This 50’ converted Troop Sleeper is painted gold with silver band, black roof and ends. It bears ‘Rio Grande’ speed lettering in black. The car is lettered in black. It was built in 1943 by Pullman-Standard, serviced in the 1960s, and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. This special car number 10 is a former Pullman troop sleeper that was rebuilt into a dynamometer test car for evaluating locomotive performance. It has an engine and generator to power its test systems. Like this car, troop sleepers became surplus after WWII and were sold off to numerous railroads.
