Formed in April 1909 to take over the foreclosed Colorado and Northwestern which was organized in 1897. Part of the line’s right-of-way northwest of Denver, CO., is designated a Historic District and is currently enjoyed as a hiking/biking trail that affords the traveler amazing views of the Colorado Rockies. This part of the line was rightly known as the “Switzerland Trail of America.”
