Single Car

The first mass produced all steel fabricated single door boxcars were built for CPR between June 1929 and March 1930.  The last of this series was removed from revenue freight service during 1983, however, some survive in company storage service.

The appearance of these cars was unique to the Canadian Pacific Railway due mainly to their 8 foot 7 inch inside height.  Other prominent features include a radial flat panel roof, a 3/4 drednaught end and a 5 foot wide Youngstown Steeldoor.

The block lettering scheme illustrated on this car was introduced in 1950, becoming a well known stylistic feature of the CPR during the steam to deisel transition era.  By this date the cars were mainly used in grain service.

The "Script" lettering style was introduced in 1962 when Canadian Pacific began purchasing its second generation of diesel locomotives from GMD and MLW.
