40' Standard Box Car, Plug & Sliding Door
Release Feb-97

In March 1958, this 40? standard box car with plug and sliding door was built by Northern Pacific at their Brainard, MN shop. It was used in dual service, hauling both lumber and grain. In January 1969, in preparation for the 1970 BN merger, the entire 450-unit fleet of these cars was repainted in BN green at the Laurel, MT shops. The NP initials are white with black drop shadow and the monad herald is in red, white, and black. On July 2, 1864, Abraham Lincoln signed the charter for this railroad to be built from the Great Lakes to Puget Sound.
