 In 1982, Norfolk & Western and Southern Railway formed a new holding company (called Norfolk Southern Corporation) to own both railroads. Shortly after, N&W adopted this paint scheme for freight cars. Dubbed the Claytor scheme after the head of the parent company, this would remain N&W’s standard freight car scheme until the adoption of the Norfolk Southern image for rolling stock several years later. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers
