After a couple of years of experimenting with various lettering arrangements for their massive autoparts car fleet, around 1978, Conrail finally settled on this version featuring logo stencils that could be easily handled in the paint shop. Around the same time many cars, these included, were receiving U-1 inspection dots (seen to the right of the con-stencil.) Also during this period, many Conrail and Chessie 60 and 86 foot boxcars were undergoing inspections of their centerplates, resulting in another larger yellow inspection dot applied to the left of the road number. This dot included shop data for the centerplate inspection. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers
