This 33’ twin bay hopper with offset sides and coal load is painted black with white logo and lettering. It was built between 1956 and 1957 by B&O and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Part of Class N-44, this series of hoppers was among thousands of builds and rebuilds included in the new B&O assembly line at Du Bois in 1957. “Twenty-four cars every
eight hours” was their production rate. The new B&O assembly program was the beginning of a new era in railroad freight car building. By 1970 there were 3100 on the revenue roster and by 1980, 25 remained.
