New Z Scale Meat Packer Reefer Series!

This 36’ wood-sheathed reefer was built new by General American in December of 1925. It was repaintedby General American’s East Chicago shops in February of 1931. Billboard car side advertising was used extensively by meat packers, breweries and producers of food products, from the 1920’s thru 1938. This form of advertising came about when freight car leasing companies realized they could make more money by letting the companies leasing their cars paint billboard ads on the sides of the cars. This car shows the Bershire Ham and Bacon ad on both sides of the car.
