This 40' standard box car with single door, full ladders, and without roofwalk was originally built as a class BX-53 box car and included a roofwalk. When rebuilt in May 1969, the roofwalk was removed, but the ladders were left full length. The newly classed BX-136 car was painted box car red with white door and lettering. When the AAR required the phasing out of roofwalks in the 1970s, not all rebuilds included shortened ladders. Like ATSF 22640, many kept their full-length ladders, but also included a warning like this one: ''Keep Off Roof, No Running Board.''
