Debuting in 1935, The Comet was built by Goodyear-Zeppelin for service on the New Haven between Boston and Providence The general arrangement was similar to the Zephyr and UP's M-10000 with the exception of having cabs and prime movers at both ends. At the end of the run, the engineer just moved to the cab at the other end. Both sets of cab controls operated both prime moves simultaneously. The three unit train seated 160 passengers. In April, 1935 The Comet hit 110.5 mph in a test run, a record for the New England states. In normal service, The Comet covered the distance from Boston, Massachussetts to Providence, Rhode Island in just 44 minutes - including stops! On occasion The Comet train was used for excursion trips to New York city. This run will feature the paint scheme used in 1941 and later.
