Tractor trailers have been the king of the road since the 1950's. They grew from the smaller delivery trucks of the early automotive era to the big rigs we know today. Both the power of the trucks pulling them and the size of the trailers has increased over the years. Today, many over the road trucks have comfortable sleeping and living areas allowing for team driving and nearly constant movement of freight. Trailers have similarly advanced, from the 40 ft trailers of the past up through 45 ft and 48 ft to today's 53 ft trailers. There are many styles of trailers depending on what is being carried. These Wabash Duraplate trailers are most often used in the transport of boxed and/or palleted  goods of many types. They are most often used in long distance operations and are used in intermodal operations as well on spine cars, all-purpose well cars and 89 ft flatcars.
